Daruma
Posted by Luz Sanchez Aguilar on
The daruma doll is a Japanese amulet (engimono). It is a red doll, without arms or feet, with a male face that also has no eyes, only two white circles. Thanks to its rounded shape, it swings but never falls, so it represents perseverance and effort.
Typically the Japanese give daruma dolls to give someone the opportunity to fulfill a wish, for example on their birthday, New Year's, or for a new project. When you want to make a wish, you paint one of your eyes and leave it in a visible place. Thus, every day you see it it will remind you that you have to work hard to achieve your goal. When the wish comes true you will have to paint the other eye as a sign of gratitude.
